Te Rautaki Māori

In 2007 the first official Maori strategy for NZQA was launched.  The strategic direction of Te Rautaki Maori a Te Mana Tohu Matauranga 2007 – 2012 was Full Maori participation in a knowledge based society and economy

Embedded in the strategy were long-term Maori aspirations represented by the following five themes:

  • Maori potential
  • Multiple pathways
  • Quality markers
  •  Gains for Maori
  • Maori futures.

Four implementation pathways with 16 key actions were established to ensure that the strategy influenced all aspects of NZQA’s business. A recent review has found that primarily the deliverables have been achieved. This is a significant accomplishment for NZQA.

The review highlighted how NZQA values its contribution and acknowledges its responsibilities to Maori and Maori learners. Since the launch of Te Rautaki Maori a Te Mana Tohu Matauranga 2007 – 2012, NZQA has gained confidence in its ability to contribute to improved outcomes for Maori through its core functions

Te Rautaki Maori a te Mana Tohu Matauranga 2012 – 2017

The next strategy, Te Rautaki Maori a te Mana Tohu Matauranga 2012 – 2017 will aim to outline NZQA’s contribution to the Government’s education sector goal of Maori achieving education success as Maori, and continue to build on the achievements of Te Rautaki Maori a Te Mana Tohu Matauranga 2007 – 2012.

This next strategy will include some new focus areas but will also continue to build on the deliverables of the first by carrying through key themes which include contributing to improved Maori student achievement outcomes, implementing matauranga Maori evaluative quality assurance, strengthening relationships and support for Maori expert groups and developing organisational culture and capability to engage effectively with Maori.
